When designing a collection, it is sometimes useful for the designer to create a moodboard to help organise their ideas.  Today we are going to share with you some of the images that our head designer and company director, Betty, used whilst planning our latest seasonal items.  Over to Betty to tell you all about her creative process.

“My starting point was to google colour trends for AW14.  In the olden days (pre internet, shock horror!) it was a lot more expensive to look up seasonal trends.  A designer or designer house would have to sign up to trend publications, which are often hundreds of pounds, or visit trade shows to view fabric and colour trends.  So google has been our savior!  Anyway, I googled colour trends for both the fashion industry and the lingerie industry.

One colour trend that really spoke to me was rich, sumptuous berry colours in jewel tones.  Think deep garnets, amethysts and rubies.  Nothing says glamour more than deep rich colours!  Now you may have also noticed that we have also moved into the silk arena.  We thought it important to ramp up the luxury in our collections to really speak to our core customers, and nothing is as glorious as a silk robe to lounge in.  So you can expect to see a lot more silk in our future collections.  Hence the 100% ‘Heather’ silk Bettie Collection was born.  Below are a selection of the images that best represent the colour and mood we are trying to evoke in this collection.

Once I collated some images of key colour trends I then looked at what worked from past seasons that customers loved so much they might want to see again.  A best selling item for us has definitely been the Bettie Robe – several customers have bought one in every colour we have produced.  So the Bettie Robe was a must have for the AW14 season.  I also wanted to add items to this collection that would compliment and enhance customers experiences of the robe, what better than to have a matching Night Gown!  The cherry on top of this luxurious nightwear set?  A little bed jacket for when you’re reading in bed or for those who don’t want the full length dressing gown.  All that was left to do was choose a theme for our photos hoot to reflect the extravagance of the silk collection, for our photographer Iberian Black Arts to magic into the product picture backgrounds.”
