Good evening all, Team Blue’s hopes you all had a lovely Christmas, and no doubt a couple of days off over this Christmas to New Years period.  Your time off this festive season is exactly why we are posting on the blog today about the theory of ‘Hygge’.

Hygge is a wonderful new trend winging its way around the world this season.  Pronounced ‘hoo-ga’, Hygge, comes from Denmark and roughly translated to English, means cosy-ness.  Think chestnuts roasting on an open fire, cashmere blankets and shawls to snuggle up (attired in Betty Blue’s Loungewear of course) in, warm mugs of hot chocolate and a snoozing lap dog on the sofa.  All things we wholeheartedly embrace at Betty Blue’s!

To celebrate and embrace Hygge these holidays we have some excellent suggestions of books to read whilst snuggling under your duvet on the sofa.

We are more than excited to flick through the pages of a brand spanking new Poirot adventure.  This is the second officially commissioned (by Agatha Christie Limited) new Poirot book by the award winning author Sophie Hannah, after her first was met with much acclaim.  They were written to celebrate the centenery of the very first Poirot books being published.  This new book, Closed Casket, follows much the same format at Ms Christie did.  A gathering of people at a country house, a change in a will to disinherit some, and a murder…..but not the victim who was suspected to have been murdered!  Can Monsieur Poirot solve the mysterious murder?  Well you will just have to read it to find out.  You can read more and purchase this page turner HERE.

Agent Zigzag by Ben Macintyre is a must read if you find the world of espionage as fascinating as we do.  This book is all about the real life story of WWII spy Eddie Chapman, who not only spied for Germany, but Britain also!  Eddie Chapman was, to say the least, a bit of a rogue.  He had many lovers, and well we’re still not quite sure if he was a traitor to his country or in fact a staunch patriot.  Whatever Eddie Chapman was or wasn’t he lead the most fascinating of lives and this book relays his story in an exciting and nail biting way.  Sound like your thing?  You can get the book HERE.

Our last offering to hunker down with and embrace ‘Hygge’ is, Shelter From The Storm, by Ellie Dean.  This is the latest in the series of books by Ellie Dean about Beach View Boarding House.  Catch up with all the gang and their goings on, set in WWII in an English seaside town.  The best thing about this book is that you can also get it from Audible, a site with hundreds of audio books.  So whilst you snuggle on the sofa with a warm blanket, you can listen to the story whilst knitting or generally crafting/eating cake/drinking tea.  Bliss!  You can find out about Audible and listen to an extract from the book HERE.

Lastly, reading wouldn’t be reading without a beautiful bookmark to mark the page you have come to.  We LOVE this little accessory from Tom Dixon, to make our book look beautiful.
